As I finished up my education
at Virginia Tech in 1994 I began to pursue joining the staff
of Campus Crusade for Christ. I wasn't convinced this was
the right path, but I decided to continue down it until roadblocks
where placed in my way, but they never came. The next thing
I knew I was headed to Orlando, Florida to attend New Staff
Training at Rollins
College.
Little
did I know what I was getting myself into that summer. The
summer began with a series of basic seminary classes that
were challenging, but enjoyable. After the classes we began
learning how to develop ministry partners who would join
in supporting the ministry I was embarking on. I wasn't really
sure how I was going to do what they were asking, but I was
willing to try with the help of God.
When I headed back to Virginia I began the process of finding the team God had
for me, hoping to find them quickly. Little did I know God would keep me on that
search for 26 months. There were many times in the beginning I considered giving
up, but as weeks and months passed I became more resolute in completing the task
set before me. In October 1996 I reported to the assignment I had received more
than two years before, West Virginia University.
Over
the next two years I got to disciple young believers, build
relationships with nonbelievers, and have God show me where
my real passions and skills were. During my time in Morgantown
I began doing more and more of the publicity for the variety
of events we held around campus and developed my skills with
computers.
My first year on campus was followed by an opportunity to staff a summer project
at Daytona Beach, Florida. While I was down there I visited the World Headquarters
of Campus Crusade for Christ where I began looking for other opportunities to
use the skills God had blessed me with and I had developed at Virginia Tech.
The
Office of the President exists to serve the CCC President,
his staff and assist the focused ministries of Campus Crusade
for Christ. We don’t operate with a “top down” mentality;
rather, we come alongside ministries as we seek to answer
the question, “What can we do to help make them the
most successful?” I like that we don't have an agenda
of our own, but that we help individual ministries to achieve
their agendas by lending our expertise, giving them greater
capacity to focus on what they do best, or to fill gaps temporarily
and train local ministries.
I'm looking forward to the
opportunity to serve the President, his staff and all the
ministries
of Campus Crusade for
Christ.
