I grew up going to
church as a child. I was involved in the choir for most of
my childhood and involved in the teenage youth group. In my
youth group I was called the "most religious" in
the group, but I didn't know any more that the other kids.
Sure I was involved in Sunday school and knew a few of the
"right" answers but I knew there was something missing.
In high school I began looking for that part of life I thought
was missing. I went on missions trips with the church I grew
up in and began reading my Bible from time to time. It was
like reading a story but never getting to the last chapter.
During my senior year in high school I got involved with the
youth group at McLean
Bible Church. Throughout the year I attended many fun
activities at the church and heard a story that went further
than I had heard before. Not only was I to obey God, but He
created me to have a personal relationship with Him. I heard
this part of the story several times over the year.
The
summer after graduating from high school I went on a houseboat
trip with McLean. On that trip I entered into that relationship
with God, trusting in His son to pay for all the mistakes
in the past, present and future. Nothing changed right away,
but little did I know this was the beginning of a story that
continues today.
That fall I went off to Virginia Tech to study Architecture
and got involved with the local Campus Crusade for Christ
movement. Most of my time was consumed with classes but I
stayed connected with Campus Crusade. As the years passed
I got more involved with Crusade.
My last year at Tech I began considering what I would do with
the rest of my life. I considered going to graduate school
right away but knew it wasn't where God was leading me. Then
I considered going into the field I had trained five long
years for, but Architecture didn't have nearly the draw it
had when I entered college. The other significant thing in
my life was Campus Crusade.
